The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) found a human hand under the rubble in Soda Saroli near Maldevta area of Raipur Block during the search operation for the missing people on Tuesday. Rescue teams also recovered two bodies in Tehri district. The areas were severely affected after a flash flood and landslide were triggered by a cloudburst on Saturday in the Dehradun and Tehri districts among other nearby areas. The officials informed that the recovered hand has been handed over to the Dehradun police to carry out the necessary procedure to identify the deceased.
The rescue team also recovered two dead bodies from Tehri district on Tuesday. The dead body of an 80-year-old woman was recovered from Kothar village and a 60-year-old woman from Gawad village of Tehri district. The officials said that the search operation of the missing persons in the affected areas will be continued on Wednesday too. Besides this, SDRF also rescued eight tourists from Delhi who were stranded on the Dhaulagiri-Dhanaulti road, eight kilometres ahead of a resort in Lalpul, Maldevta. The officials informed that SDRF team immediately rushed to the spot as soon as it got a call regarding the issue but since the roads were damaged due to the recent flash floods, team members had to cover 16 kilometres on foot to carry out the rescue operation. Everyone was safely rescued and brought to Raipur by the SDRF team. In another development, SDRF also recovered a body of a tourist from Rajasthan who was swept away along with his friend in Kosi River near Nainital-Ranikhet road on Tuesday. The rescue team could not find the body of the other man till late evening.
Moreover, the Dehradun district administration also provided an ex-gratia amount of Rs four lakh to a woman named Manju whose husband died due to the recent flash floods.
Considering the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has instructed all the officials associated with Incident Response System (IRS) to be on alert mode and directed the departments concerned to act immediately on the complaints or information received from across the district. She has directed all the officials and employees concerned to stay active at their respective post while keeping their mobile phones on in order to be accessible during emergencies.
