Reacting strongly to the reported attack on Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded removal of Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SS) from his position. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Jaspur incident reflects the pathetic law and order condition of the State. He said that some traders involved in the money lending business got irked when the Jaspur MLA submitted a letter to the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in which he complained about the growing network of business of money lending and demanded that their licences and income tax details should be checked. He said that in an attempt to put pressure on the MLA so that the complaint against them is withdrawn, some traders went to the residence of the MLA. Mahara claimed that when MLA refused to get bogged down they became furious and attacked him. The PCC president said that the police arrested the attackers on the complaint of Chauhan but it came under pressure and released the attackers immediately. The administration also removed the gunner of the MLA.

The PCC president alleged that the Police are acting in a partisan manner and the Congress leaders and workers are getting targeted. He demanded that the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should take immediate cognizance of the incident and remove the SSP of Udham Singh Nagar.

Former PCC president Pritam Singh met the director general police (DGP), Uttarakhand Ashok Kumar on the issue. He said that strict action should be taken against the anti-social elements involved in the attack on the Congress MLA.
