Former chief minister and head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress Harish Rawat received a rousing welcome on Saturday after his return from Delhi to the state. After his return from Delhi, which his supporters are claiming to be a successful one, Rawat entered Uttarakhand in a cavalcade of cars at Narsan border in Haridwar. Large number of enthusiastic workers of the Congress party welcomed him. Talking to the media persons, Rawat said that the party leadership has said that he will lead the party in the election campaign. He said that it is for the party to decide on the issues raised by him.
Meanwhile, seemingly acting on the advice of Harish Rawat the All India Congress Committee (AICC) attached its secretary Kuldeep Indora with the in charge of the party in Uttarakhand Devendra Yadav. It is also expected that the central leadership of Congress party can make some senior leader of the party as party’s observer for the elections.
Harish Rawat created a storm in the Congress by a series of tweets on Thursday in which he expressed his annoyance at the role played by some leaders of Uttarakhand Congress and the representatives of the central leadership of the party. Stung by his tweets the central leadership of the party summoned him along with all the senior leaders of Uttarakhand to Delhi on Friday. In the meeting the central leadership gave a clear message to everyone that they should pose a united face to meet the challenge of the BJP in Uttarakhand. It was also decided that Harish Rawat would lead the party in the assembly elections. However the party chose a Chief Minister candidate after the elections.
