The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Dehradun Cantt Assembly seat, Ravindra Anand has accused the BJP candidate Savita Kapoor and her son Amit Kapoor of being involved in the scholarship scam worth crores of rupees. Addressing a Press conference here on Wednesday, Anand alleged that Savita Kapoor orchestrated a scam worth crores of rupees during her tenure as the president of Beehive Society. He said that when Kapoor was the president, more than 45 students belonging to scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST) got scholarships from the year 2012 to 2017 and the Social Welfare department released scholarships worth over Rs five crore for the same. However, the money was allegedly transferred to the loan accounts of Kapoor’s three colleges instead of giving it to the students concerned, he claimed.
According to him, documents of 19 such students were also used to scam the government for the scholarship money. He alleged that these 19 students had taken admission in the three colleges as per their documents and Kapoor also took the money from their scholarships too. He said, “Her son Amit Kapoor was also apparently implicated in this scam after which the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigated him too. How is it possible that all of it was happening when Savita Kapoor was the president and she did not know anything and if that is so, why did she resign from her post in December 2020?” Anand said that these are the people behind the scam and people will not vote for such candidates this year.
