AAP blames MCD and DSCL for deaths of dengue patients in Doon

Thursday, 14 September 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) for the recent deaths of dengue patients in the city. The ignorance and incapability of both of these agencies to manage water in drainages and open spaces have cost many people their lives, said the spokesman of the party Ravindra Anand. He said that there is no proper drainage system to allow rainwater to pass in various parts of the city due to which breeding of mosquitoes occurred in stagnant water.

Besides this, the unfinished construction works of DSCL for which several ditches were dug out in several areas of the city have now become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, claimed Anand. He claimed that construction works under smart city projects are being done at a very slow pace and nothing is being done by departments concerned to address it. He said that water accumulated in pits and ditches at the construction sites has augmented the spread of dengue as no steps were taken to prevent water accumulation.  He said that it is gross negligence and irresponsibility of MCD and DSCL that despite knowing the potential spread of dengue this year, they took no preventive measures that could have saved the lives of many people.

The officials concerned of both bodies should take responsibility for their negligence and failure towards such a sensitive matter. They should not just publicly apologise for it but resign from their respective posts, added Anand. He also alleged that the attitude of MCD officials during the rainy season was disappointing as the lack of proper management from their side caused such a hike in dengue patients and their deaths. The responsibility of the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ appears to be limited only to taking photographs in the name of conducting campaigns rather than taking concrete steps in advance to prevent its spread, alleged Anand.
