Terming Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu’s recent statement on saffronisation of education as unfortunate, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ravindra Singh Anand said that being on a constitutional post, he should not promote the ideas of a certain political party. He said that Naidu in his address given after inaugurating the South Asian Institute of Peace and Reconciliation at the Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidyalaya in Haridwar had said, “We are accused of saffronising education, but then what is wrong with saffron?”. Anand alleged that this seemed influenced by the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “BJP has been doing politics of religion in the country for a long time under the guise of saffron but Naidu probably forgot that he is the Vice President of India and not a BJP leader. A person holding such a dignified constitutional position linking education with religion, especially in a diverse country like India, is unfortunate,” said the AAP leader. He said that Naidu probably said this because of his association with BJP in the past but he should understand that favouring a political party while holding a constitutional position is not a dignified thing to do by the country’s vice president.
