The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with the Doon Ride Taxi union members on Tuesday protested in the regional transport office of Dehradun against the illegal operations of two-wheeler vehicles providing bike taxi services under app-based aggregators Rapido, Ola and Uber.
The protesters accused the transport officials of not acting against the companies despite being aware of the illegal operations. The union members have claimed that many scooters and bikes which are registered for personal use are being used to provide bike-taxi service under these three app-based aggregators in Dehradun and some other districts. They said that most of such vehicles belong to other states that neither have required permits nor commercial registrations. These illegal operations are causing hefty loss to local transporters besides putting the lives of locals at risk.
The spokesman of AAP Ravindra Anand said that illegal operation of such vehicles is also causing heavy loss of revenue to the Transport department as well. He said, “Most of the two-wheelers belong to other cities and states and have private number plates rather than yellow number plates meant for operation of vehicles for commercial purposes.
It is questionable that no concrete action has been taken by the Transport department despite being aware of the matter and getting several complaints against them consistently.” He said that they have presented all these points to the regional transport officers who assured them that they will take appropriate action in the matter. He said that the union members along with the party members demanded the officials to restrict the illegal operation in the name of bike-taxi services but nothing was done by them. “We will intensify our protest and bring it to the roads of Dehradun to make all aware of the poor law execution in the State,” added Anand.
