About 300 goats and sheep were killed by lightning in Uttarkashi’s Khattu Khal forests on Saturday night. The officials informed that two herders had taken their flock of goats and sheep near the forest when lightning struck about 200 goats and 100 sheep which were resting under a tree around 9 PM. The animals reportedly died instantly after being struck by lightning.
According to the officials, a team of district administration from the Dunda block reached the spot to analyse the situation. The authorities carried out necessary formalities including conducting post-mortems of deceased animals as part of the standard procedure. The officials said that animal rearing is the main source of livelihood for the affected family and the authorities are assessing the situation in order to provide interim relief to them. They said that the administration will proceed further as per the post mortem reports and other associated factors.
