Six youths were killed and one sustained serious injury in a road accident near ONGC intersection in Dehradun in the wee hours of Tuesday. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident. The superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar said that the police received a report of a collision between a container truck and an Innova car at 1:33 AM. Police arrived at the scene to find the Innova car severely damaged after colliding with the rear of the container truck. The car, carrying seven people, was completely wrecked. Kumar informed that six of the passengers died on the spot, while one person was critically injured and taken to Synergy Hospital for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgues of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Coronation hospital, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Indresh hospital. He informed that according to the preliminary investigation, the container was approaching from Kishan Nagar Chowk, while the Innova was coming from Ballupur Chowk. During the container’s crossing, it seems that the Innova driver possibly misjudged the speed and distance of the truck, and attempted to cross the road. In a rushed attempt, the vehicle collided with the back of the container that resulted in the fatal crash. Initial investigations suggest overspeeding as a likely cause of the accident, the SP city said. The deceased have been identified as Guneet (19), a resident of GMS Road, Navya Goyal (23), resident of Tilak Road, Rishabh Jain (24), resident of Rajpur Road, Kamakshi (20), a resident of Kanwali Road, Rishabh Jain (24), a resident of Rajpur Road, Atul Agarwal (24), a resident of Kalidas Road and Kunal Kukreja (23), a resident of Rajendra Nagar but originally from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.
