Act against private schools violating RTE Act: Jugran

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravindra Jugran demanded stern action against those private schools which are disregarding the Right to Education (RTE) Act provisions with impunity as regards the students’ admission. He said this on Monday after meeting the secretary of Education Ravinath Raman in Dehradun.
Jugran said that he had given a particular instance of a school ignoring provisions enshrined in both RTE Act 2009 and Uttarakhand Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2011. “We told the secretary that the Doon-based school has been consistently ignoring the RTE provisions in matters of admission. They conducted a lottery and admitted 25 children while about 20 children were denied admission. Those who were denied admission landed in serious problems of admission and a year was wasted for many of them,” he said and added that the administration must come down heavily on these institutions so as to ensure that such injustices are not again meted out to students.
He further informed that the education secretary had given him a patient hearing and assured of prompt action against the errant schools. The BJP leader at the same time warned that in case the administration chooses to sit on the matter, he would contemplate approaching the high court for redressal.
Notably, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) had taken cognizant of this case and directed the education department to promptly revoke the school’s affiliation.
