Act against public vehicles stopping at arbitrary locations in Doon: DM to officers
PNS | DEHRADUN
The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said that public vehicle operators that run Vikrams and auto rickshaws will no longer be allowed to stop at arbitrary locations to pick up or drop off passengers. Strict enforcement measures must ensure that passengers are accommodated only at designated stops. Violators will face serious consequences, including the suspension of driving licenses and the seizure of vehicles. He stated this in a meeting held at the Rishiparna Auditorium on Wednesday to address traffic issues around ISBT.
The officials informed the DM that traffic congestion near ISBT is largely caused by vehicles picking up and dropping off passengers and unauthorised parking outside the premises. In response, the DM instructed the traffic police and the regional transport office to seize any vehicles parked outside ISBT and relocate them to the Rangers Ground. He also directed the officials of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) to ensure vehicles use only the designated entry and exit gates and pick up and drop off passengers within the premises. Any violation of this directive will result in strict action, he said. The DM also reviewed live traffic management in areas around ISBT and Kargi Chowk using drone footage. He noted vehicles picking up and dropping off passengers on the roads outside the ISBT premises and vehicles parked haphazardly, adding to the congestion.
The ARTO was instructed to launch a campaign against such violations and take immediate action. The DM reiterated that all vehicles must stop only at designated locations and operators found violating the rules will face strict penalties. He directed the transport department to ensure compliance. During the meeting, officials involved in road repair and drainage improvement works were also directed to expedite their efforts.
The DM made it clear that road widening and drainage system repairs must be completed before the upcoming rainy season. Excuses will not be tolerated and visible progress is expected on the ground, he said.
