Action will soon be taken against those encroaching on the roads and roadsides in the Chamba municipality area in Tehri district. The Chamba municipality administration has issued notices to about 80 people who have encroached upon the roads in the town. The encroachers have been asked to voluntarily remove the encroachments themselves in three days. At the same time, persons responsible for erecting about 25 kiosks and roadside stalls on Forest department land in Dhanaulti have themselves removed the encroachment after receiving the notice.
It is pertinent to mention here that rising encroachments along the roads in Chamba is causing traffic congestion, leaving little space for pedestrians and resulting in various civic problems. Encroachers have occupied the footpath at many places. Ramps and slabs have been constructed on the roads in some places. The authorities are now finally taking action against such encroachments.
The Chamba municipality executive officer Upendra Dutt Tiwari said that notices have been issued to about 80 people who have encroached by building ramps and slabs on the roads in the municipality area. A three-day ultimatum has been given to such people for demolishing the encroachments themselves, failing which the authorities will demolish the same. Similarly, the Forest department had conducted a survey of the Dhanaulti area and issued notices to 25 persons for encroaching on department land. Department officials said that these persons have themselves demolished the roadside stalls and eateries they had constructed on the department’s land.
