No proper system to dispose of kitchen water, STP found non-functional

After finding inadequate facilities, the authorities have taken the key of the kitchen of floating huts in the Tehri dam reservoir into their possession. The action was taken after a committee formed by the district magistrate inspected the floating huts and encountered various flaws in the arrangements. The three-member committee headed by sub divisional magistrate Apoorva Singh formed on the directions of Tehri district magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar inspected the floating huts on the dam reservoir on Friday following complaints made by locals. The committee members stated that the sewerage treatment plant is not functional at the floating huts while the used water from the kitchen was also being dumped into the reservoir.

Recently, a worker at the floating huts had made a video which went viral on social media. It showed raw sewage from the toilet of a hut being drained into the reservoir. The local boat union patron Kuldeep Panwar and locals complained to the district magistrate about this. The district magistrate formed a committee on Thursday to inspect the floating huts and their sewage system. After inspecting the floating huts, the committee head SDM Singh said that there is no proper arrangement to dispose of the water from the kitchen. Considering this, the key of the kitchen was taken into possession by the authorities. The inspection report is being prepared. The Uttarakhand Environment Conservation and Pollution Control Board official SK Dimri said that the sewage treatment plant of the floating huts was found to be in a non-functioning state.
