The number of active cases of dengue increased to 126 in Dehradun on Tuesday. In response to the rising number of dengue cases, the government also increased its activity. On the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, secretary to the CM and Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey chaired a meeting with officials in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun.
The CM has instructed that proper fogging should be undertaken and all necessary facilities should be ensured for dengue patients in hospitals. Dhami has also directed district magistrates to conduct campaigns consistently in areas where dengue cases are rising. Meanwhile, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar wrote to the Indian Medical Association, Uttarakhand president to encourage government and private doctors to prescribe single donor platelet (SDP) and random donor platelet (RDP) as per the requirement of the patients to prevent any unnecessary pressure regarding the availability of blood pateletes.
Chairing the meeting at MCD, Pandey sought information about rising dengue cases in the area under the municipal corporation. He directed them to draft a plan and execute it to check the spread of dengue in each ward. Strict action will be taken in case of negligence at any level, he warned. The commissioner stressed that fogging should be done consistently and special focus should be laid on sanitation in the entire city area. The officials should themselves conduct morning visits to seek reports on foggind and cleaning.
The responsibility of the officials will be fixed if they fail to do so, Pandey said. He further said that the number of sanitation workers should be increased in such a situation. All necessary arrangements for dengue patients should be ensured in hospitals and there should be adequate number of beds in case of further increase in the number of patients. Public awareness campaigns on protection from dengue should be conducted and special focus should be laid on areas where the cases are more. He directed that the MCD and Health department should soon start work in coordination to check dengue. Pandey said that soon an awareness campaign will be started and that the MCD will play pre-recorded messages on its vehicles as part of this effort.
Meanwhile, Kumar wrote to the IMA Uttarakhand president regarding proper management of plateletes for treatment of dengue patients. He stated that it has been noted that there is considerable demand for SDP among patients needing plateletes which is exerting unnecessary pressure on availability of plateletes. Stating that RDP are also effective and easily available, he requested the IMA Uttarakhand president to encourage doctors to prescribe plateletes as the requirement of the patient.
