Members of the Bheem Army Jai Bheem organisation were stopped by the police from reaching Pratapnagar where they had planned to meet the family members of Ketan Lal who had been beaten to death allegedly by some upper caste members.

Stopped by the authorities, they protested against the death of the scheduled caste youth in the Dewal village of Pratapnagar block. Police along with personnel of ITBP, Home Guard and Fire Services were deployed to halt the outfit members on Narendranagar bypass. Protesting against the authorities, they said that the guilty had not received punishment more than three weeks after the incident while alleging that the bereaved family had not received adequate financial assistance. The organisation’s chief Manjit Notiyal said that their sole demand is to ensure justice for the victim’s family. Tehri sub divisional magistrate Ashish Chandra Ghildiyal informed that the situation in the area is peaceful and that the members of the Bheem Army Jai Bheem outfit had been stopped to prevent any disturbance. Further action will be taken on receiving instructions from senior officials, he said.

It will be recalled that 18-year-old Lal was allegedly beaten to death and his friend was seriously injured over his relationship with a minor girl from an upper caste family.
