The Additional Director General, law and order, V Murugesan suspended sub-inspector Karmaveer Singh of Roorkee for the alleged irregularity in a case registered under Section 420 that is pending for almost a year. He also ordered senior superintendent of police of Haridwar Ajai Singh to conduct a preliminary inquiry on inspector Vajinder Singh of Jwalapur Kotwali for alleged irregularities in a case. He said that the police should focus on timely disposal of cases as there is no importance of justice for victims if it gets delayed.
The department will take action against officials who cause unnecessary delay in resolving cases. He stated these orders in a review meeting conducted on Wednesday to evaluate the steps taken by Haridwar police against various kinds of cases registered across the district in the past few months. The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police, Garhwal Zone, Karan Singh Nagnyal and Haridwar SSP along with superintendents of police and circle officers of the district. Reviewing the work of Haridwar police, Murugesan said that though the police have made good efforts in disposing of cases, much better work can be done by them at the district level.
He directed the officials to monitor pending cases of their respective circles on their own rather than depending on their juniors in police stations. He asked them to encourage those personnel doing commendable work and send reports of those with poor performance to the senior level. The officials informed in the meeting that the Haridwar police have settled 273 cases of cheating and extortion out of a total 470 cases registered since February. Besides this, the police issued 41 notices to 174 accused under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and have arrested a total of 78 accused while 13 accused surrendered. Remaining 197 cases are currently under deliberation process, stated the officials.
