The government schools in Dehradun will soon integrate online classes and Virtual Reality (VR) technology to enhance basic education through the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The Dehradun district administration will sign a memorandum of understanding with the trust to implement this initiative. Under the programme, students from classes V to IX will receive online education in subjects such as mathematics, science and English, Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said.

He stated that he has instructed the chief education officer to ensure the necessary arrangements for conducting online classes under Vidya Shakti project in basic schools. In the first phase of the pilot project, 50 schools will be selected that will be equipped with internet, Wi-Fi, LED TVs and other essential devices under Project Utkarsh.

The administration has allocated Rs five crore to the CEO to support this initiative. He said that block education officers, principals and teachers will also receive information about the online academic programmes being conducted under Vidya Shakti. Bansal further stated that the administration will soon sign an MoU with the organisation concerned to ensure online education can begin soon.

This initiative aims to address the shortage of teachers and provide access to learning for students who do not have access to tuition classes. Through interactive simulations in virtual labs and gamification methods, students from classes V to IX will be taught mathematics, science and English in a simplified manner, Bansal said.
