Admn wakes up to complains of overpricing from K’nath Yatris

Minister Satpal Maharaj had ordered DM Rudraprayag to register cases against those selling food and water at exorbitant prices to stranded pilgrims in Kedarnath.

The Rudraprayag district administration has started intensive inspection in the district after the tourism minister Satpal Maharaj ordered the district magistrate (DM) Manuj Goyal to register  cases against the people selling food items and water at exorbitant prices to pilgrims stranded in Kedarnath due to incessant rainfall. The DM ordered the sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and the police department on Wednesday morning to check various hotels and restaurants to find out whether the food supplies are being sold at increased prices than their usual rates to the tourists and pilgrims stuck in the district. “The police personnel and several officials of the administration have been directed to conduct regular intensive inspections to examine the situation. The authorities cannot act on random statements as we have received no such complaints here so far in which a complainant actually mentioned the name of a person or place that overcharged anybody for the food. However, stringent action will be taken against those involved in such practice,” asserted Goyal. As per the police officials, no case was filed on the matter till late Wednesday evening in the district.
