Advocates continue strike, officials try to resolve issue

The protest by advocates in Dehradun entered its 13th day on Saturday. Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli and the District Magistrate Savin Bansal visited the protest site in an effort to resolve the matter . The lawyers are demanding construction of proper chambers for advocates and provision of land for this.
An advocate said that they have been requesting land for chambers for the past three years, but the government has not taken any concrete step. He said that the five bighas land avilable is not enough for all advocates in the city. He said the lawyers are not against the planned Rain Basera project but they want equal attention to be paid to their demands.
Meanwhile, officials assured the advocates that the government will take positive steps soon. They said representatives of the advocates will be included in the master planning process. The Home secretary also said that if the current land is not enough, more land will be provided. He added that the government will also take decisions on the construction of the underpass and the issues related to it.
