Months after the end of the monsoon, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed the departments concerned to nominate officials to mark sensitive villages, roads and all such areas across the district which are vulnerable to landslides during monsoon in order to make proper arrangements to tackle the situation if needed. She also instructed the municipal bodies of Dehradun and Rishikesh to prepare a long-term plan for the areas which suffer from waterlogging to ensure minimum damage due to heavy rains in monsoon this year.

The DM conducted a review meeting on Thursday with the officials of the departments concerned with the preparations associated with disaster management considering the approaching monsoon season. She directed municipal bodies to prepare an action plan in a phased manner to ensure all the drains and drains are cleaned before the monsoon season to avoid water logging. She also directed the Public Works Department to coordinate with the respective municipal bodies to ensure no drains near roads are choked that can prevent the flow of rainwater.  She also instructed them to repair embankments near water bodies to prevent flood while maintaining cleanliness and make arrangements to broadcast warnings and activate flood protection posts. She ordered the officials to send daily reports of the cleaning of drains to the district disaster management. She ordered the chief medical officer to make arrangements to stock essential medicines in health centres and to provide medical facilities in flood and landslide-affected areas as per the requirement.
