After stray cattle, MCD now imposes fine on pig owners
Besides imposing penalties on the owners of cows that leave them in public places to feed on their own, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has now started to impose penalties on the owners of the pigs too. The officials informed that many locals have approached MCD with the complaints of pigs roaming around on roads and colonies are creating a nuisance.
Taking cognisance of the complaints, the teams of the corporation has started to pick up such pigs across the city and shift them into a pigpen in Sahastradhara Road, informed the senior veterinary officer of MCD, Dr DC Tiwari. He said that an owner is charged with Rs 2,000 for the first three days of a pig stay in pigpen but after that, Rs 1000 is charged for every additional day. According to Tiwari, the corporation has collected the penalties of about Rs 70,000 from the owners of around 30 pigs which were picked this month only.
The officials said that besides cows, bulls and pigs, MCD is also picking up mules, horses and donkeys which are left by their owners in public places and imposing fine on them too. “Though the teams of MCD make regular rounds in the city to check such cattle roaming in the city, we still appeal locals to complain if they find such cattle in public places”, said Tiwari.
