Agastyamuni Nagar Panchayat in Rudraprayag district will be upgraded to a municipality. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this and other announcements while virtually addressing a programme at Agastyamuni, which he was unable to visit physically due to inclement weather on Tuesday.

Dhami announced that an ITI will be opened at Bhanaj to encourage technical education in the district. He declared that the Tungnath Mahotsav at Makku will be a district level fair. The Mayali-Basukedar-Guptkashi motor road will be widened-hotmixed, the Guptkashi primary health centre will be upgraded to a community health centre and the Maharshi Agastyamuni temple will be beautified. Dhami further said that arrangements will be made for cremation and burial of horses-mules which die on the pilgrimage route while also approving a sum of Rs five crore for reconstruction of the Vijaynagar-Pathalidhar route.

The CM said, “Our government is fully committed to women empowerment and is working in this direction. We aim to financially empower women and make them independent through various public welfare and women empowerment schemes. The participation of women is being ensured in all spheres now. Women are making important contributions through women self help groups, to make themselves, the family and the State self-reliant. The State government has also decided to provide 30 per cent horizontal reservation to women in government jobs, as part of its efforts to empower them further,” Dhami said.

The CM said that all arrangements are being finalised for the second phase of the Kedarnath Yatra. The government is making consistent efforts to make the pilgrimage more convenient. Dhami said that the online registration system will continue till the first week of September when the Char Dham shrines are closed to the public for the winter. Those unable to register online will be registered on the spot. There will not be any cap on the number of pilgrims, he added. Dhami clarified that no temple will be built in the name of Kedarnath or any other Char Dham shrine, anywhere in the nation. This decision had been approved by the State cabinet, he said.
