Construction agencies directed to prepare plans according to Construction & Demolition Waste Management Rules

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal  has directed all construction agencies and service providers working in the district to ensure compliance of the guidelines issued by the Central government in 2016 regarding the storage of construction material and demolition waste. He has directed the Public Works Department, Rural Engineering Service, Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited, Peyjal Nigam, Jal Sansthan, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Dehradun Smart City Limited to take necessary steps in order to comply with the guidelines.

According to officials, it is often being seen in the district that construction material is being stored near the construction site itself for a long time. This negatively affects the traffic system on the one hand while also increases the risk of accidents in addition to denting the appearance of the city.

Goyal further said that in 2016, the Government of India had issued directions according to which every institution getting works done in civil areas should not keep construction materials or debris on roads or public space. A work plan should be made for this purpose. The services of experts can be taken if the agency does not have the plan or capacity for ensuring this. All the construction agencies are expected to adhere to the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules 2016 and prepare a proper work plan to ensure the same. The agencies are also expected to submit the plan in the local body soon while also informing the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun. Following the rules will ensure that the construction material and debris do not affect traffic and do not pose accident risk while also enabling the collection or reuse of the demolition waste in a scientific manner.
