Ahmedabad AICC session historic, to boost morale of workers: Congress

The two-day convention of the extended working committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) held on the banks of Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on April 8 and 9 was historic in many senses, said the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni.
She said that deliberations on the policies and strategy of the Congress party occurred during the convention and many proposals aimed at restoring the Congress party’s past glory were endorsed during it.
She said that the connection of the Congress party with Gujarat, especially Sabarmati is very old. It was on this land from where Mahatma Gandhi gave the clarion class of freedom struggle. “Apart from Gandhi, the fertile land of Gujarat has given historic personalities such as Sardar Patel and Dadabhai Naoroji to the nation and AICC conventions were held in Ahmedabad in 1902, 1921 and 1938,’’ she said.
She informed that the convention started with the meeting of the Congress Working Committee in which 169 leaders participated. In his inaugural address Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the historic past of the party and present challenges.
Dasauni said that on the second day general convention of the party was held in which all the office bearers, heads of frontal organisations and 1,727 AICC members participated. In the convention it was emphasised that the prevailing reservations for SC, ST and OBC should be preserved and it should be extended and it was decided that a nationwide agitation on issues such as price rise and unemployment. She said that the convention focussed on organisational revamp and it was decided to enhance the powers of the district presidents.
