Friday, 17 February 2023 | PNS | New Tehri

In a major step in door step delivery of medicine by use of modern technology, a successful trial was conducted by transporting the medicines from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh to the District Hospital of Tehri by use of drone on Thursday.

The drone covered the aerial distance of about 36 km from the helipad of AIIMS Rishikesh to Tehri in just 29 minutes to deliver the medicines of Tuberculosis (TB). The AIIMS Rishikesh has now become the first AIIMS in the country to have conducted the trial of sending medicines through drones.

Speaking on the occasion, the executive director of AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Meenu Singh said that the facility will prove beneficial in making the TB-free India campaign a success as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that Uttarakhand is a state with tough geographical conditions and with this technique medicines can be delivered to sick people living in remote areas of the state and their treatment can get started in time.  Dr Singh said that in the event of pilgrims getting injured or seriously ill during the Chardham Yatra, this technology would be of special benefit in delivering medicines.

The Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Sanjeev Kumar Mittal, Deputy Director (Administration) Lieutenant colonel (retd) AR Mukherjee, Head of Radiology department Dr Manoj Gupta, Registrar Rajeev Chaudhary and others were present on the occasion.
