The Lok Sabha Member from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Ajay Bhatt batted strongly for developing the Pantnagar airport as an international airport on the last day of the Budget session which was adjourned sine die. He said that not just the airport has potential to grow into a full-fledged international airport but the State government earmarked and arranged land to be used for developing the airport into an international one.
He argued that the airport’s elevation would not just boost tourist footfalls in the whole of Kumaon region but make places, known for mythological, historical and spiritual significance aside from being endowed with picturesque natural beauty, like Kainchi Dham and Jageshwar thriving religious tourism sites.
He also demanded revamping and expansion of Chiniyalisaur and Gauchar airstrips in Garhwal along with the Naini Saini airport in Pithoragarh and said that the expansion of air service would immensely boost religious tourism and commercial activities in the State.
