Alaknanda Ashok elected joint secretary of IOA

The president of Uttarakhand Badminton Association Alaknanda Ashok was elected as the joint secretary of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Saturday. She was nominated by the Badminton Federation of India for the post and won by 48-21 against Suman Kaushik.
The newly appointed IOA joint secretary is a four-time Asian rafting champion and a bronze medalist in kayaking at the national level. She has also represented the Indian team twice in the Masters Badminton Championships. Her daughter, Kuhu Garg, is also an international badminton player, who has represented India in the world championships and won 13 medals in several international events.
Talking about getting this opportunity and honour, Alaknanda Ashok said, “I have been working for badminton but never dreamed of getting such a position in IOA. I am thankful to the Uttarakhand State Badminton Association and Badminton Association of India for this opportunity and honour.” One of the country’s renowned athletes PT Usha was also elected as president of IOA while sportspersons including boxer MC Mary Kom, former tennis player Rohit Rajpal, table tennis player Sharath Kamal Achant and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt were chosen as members of the executive committee. It is pertinent to mention here that Alaknanda Ashok is the wife of the Uttarakhand director general of police Ashok Kumar.
