An alert from Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, helped authorities save a woman from committing suicide in Udham Singh Nagar. The deputy superintendent of police of the cyber crime police station of State Task Force (STF), Ankush Mishra said that a woman from Udham Singh Nagar posted about committing suicide on Instagram on Tuesday after which the cyber crime police received an alert from Meta via call and email from United States of America (USA) late at night as they frequently screen such posts. The STF immediately contacted the local police and made them aware of the distressing post after which, the district’s superintendent of police (Crime), Chandrashekhar R Godke reached the spot along with a police team, said Mishra. According to the police, the woman informed them that her father remarried after her mother died due to which she lives with her uncle. She said that she was also in a relationship with a man but they both recently broke up due to certain reasons. These incidents prompted her to think about committing suicide. The DSP said that the woman’s family was made aware of her situation and were asked to come to Police Chowki for counselling along with her. She was given professional counselling on Wednesday and she also assured the police that she would not take such an extreme step in future.
