The Almora district magistrate Vandana has directed the regional transport office to ensure portable dustbins are placed in public transport vehicles to ensure effective waste management across the district. She directed the RTO to conduct meetings with respective transport unions to ensure they comply with the rule of the complete plastic ban and ensure collected garbage is disposed of as per the norms. She directed the transport officials to ensure the installation of dustbins as well as their usage by passengers in public transport.
The regional transport officer (administration) of Almora, Gurdev Singh informed that RTO has already been working on placing such dustbins in public transport vehicles and has even imposed penalties on around 12 people so far. He said that RTO will spread awareness about it to make the maximum number of people aware of it. Besides this, the DM also directed the officials concerned to get information from each Gram Panchayat on how they are collecting and managing waste disposal in their respective villages. She has asked them to submit their reports on a daily 12 basis. She asked the respective sub divisional magistrates to hold meetings with commercial bodies of the district collecting and disposing of the plastic garbage generated due to the plastic used in the packaging of their products. The DM directed them to take strict action against such bodies if they fail to comply with the rules as per the court’s order.
