Dehradun police nabbed four people including a woman in the wee hours of Friday who were using an ambulance to smuggle liquor. The illegal liquor was allegedly being smuggled to Rishikesh and the gang used an ambulance to avoid police checking on various routes. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said in a Press conference here on Friday that a police team in the Doiwala area on Friday around 12:35 AM noticed that an ambulance was passing through a route with a loud siren when there was nobody on the road. He said that this made the police team on duty there suspicious of the ambulance and they stopped it to check with the driver.

The police observed that a woman was lying inside the ambulance and two men were also present there besides the driver. Kunwar said, “When the police asked the reason for the loud siren despite the road being empty, the driver panicked and failed to respond properly. The police immediately checked the ambulance and found out that the ambulance had several cardboard boxes. The woman was also lying down over the cardboard boxes. When the police checked, they found 20 cardboard boxes of 960 bottles of country liquor.” He said that the police charged all four accused under Section 60/72 of the Excise Act for illegal transportation of liquor and arrested them. The police have identified the accused as Raveena Bhatnagar (36), Sunny (31), Prince Singh (24) and Abhishek (21) and all are residents of Rishikesh. Many cases of smuggling of alcohol and drugs are registered against Raveena Bhatnagar under various sections in Rishikesh police station, as per the SSP.
