With the huge influx of Char Dham pilgrims continuing in Uttarakhand, a record number of 15,630 devotees reached Yamunotri Dham while 11,734 devotees arrived in Gangotri Dham on Wednesday. The traffic chaos that affected the Yatra on the initial days has become less grim due to the initiatives taken by the Uttarkashi district administration. Notably, the district magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht directed the officers deployed on the Yatra route to stay put in their respective sectors and help the Yatra go on hassle- free.
Meanwhile, the DM and the chief development officer Jai Kishan inspected the Yatra control room and reviewed things along the Yatra routes through CCTV feed. They stressed that if there is difficulty in supplying water and food on four-wheelers, two-wheelers and even horses/mules should be used. Further, they directed the officers and departments concerned to take stern action against the traders overcharging the pilgrims.
According to the information received on Wednesday, around 1,000 vehicles at Gangotri, 50 at Nagun, 25 at Dharasu, 200 at Gangnani, 300 at Songad, 50 at Lanka and 150 at Harsil were held at certain holding points along the Gangotri route before they were allowed to move towards their next destinations. Similarly, along the Yamunotri route, 100 vehicles were held at Damta, 125 at Kharadi, 400 at Paligad, 300 at Kharsali and Janki Chatti, 100 at Dobata and around 250 at Shiv Gufa and later were sent to the next destination in a phased and controlled manner.
The district administration officers claimed that the administrative regulation of the pilgrims’ movement on vehicles has started yielding positive results in easing the traffic snarl along the Yatra routes.
