Monday, 17 JUNE 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Dehradun, with both the mountainous and plain areas of Uttarakhand reeling under a prolonged spell of searing heat wave, the regional meteorological office has forecast heavy rain lashing the State on June 19. The Met officials said that the upcoming heavy rain is likely to bring down the soaring mercury by a few notches and give people a much-awaited respite from the insufferable scorching heat.

As per the weather forecast,   a number of districts like Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Alomra, Nainital and Champawat are poised to receive heavy downpour on the day. The same is the Met forecast for other districts too.

However, the heat wave now sweeping over a large swathe of the plain areas of the State for the past few days will continue on Monday too. The Met department issued orange and yellow alert of heat wave for most of the districts. For Dehradun, the forecast is: the mercury will stay above 40 degrees Celsius. Sunday recorded the maximum temperature at 42.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum was about 28 degrees Celsius-four notches above the normal.  In addition, the intense heat wave forced the people to stay indoors till the evening.
