The president of the Anganwadi Workers Association Rekha Negi has demanded that the State government must increase the beneficiary rates so that proper and healthful meals can be provided to the children. She said that earlier too she had raised this issue but no action has been taken by the government yet. She stressed that Anganwadi workers will protest on this issue outside the chief minister’s residence on September 25.
Negi emphasised on the government’s responsibility to increase the beneficiary rates to enable the provision of nutritious meals to children. She also urged the government to ensure the timely delivery of all essential items to the Anganwadi centres considering the transportation challenges. Anganwadi workers should be paid an honorarium of Rs 18,000 as per minimum wage standards and their seniority should be considered for annual increments. They should also be rewarded for their contributions in recognition of their work. She said that it is paramount to highlight the significant delays in promoting six Anganwadi workers to supervisor positions, with a few even having retired. So, it is imperative to expedite the process of promoting Anganwadi workers to the role of supervisor without further delay, she added.
