Anganwadi workers to protest if kept away from pre-primary classes
More than 40,000 Anganwadi workers will protest against the Uttarakhand Government if the latter will hire anyone apart from Anganwadi workers to teach in the government pre-primary classes. While stating this, the president of State Anganwadi Workers Association Rekha Negi asserted that the Anganwadi workers have struggled for years to connect Anganwadi centres with the pre-primary education of small kids and now rather than making them a part of the pre-primary education system, the government is thinking about excluding these workers. “We have been teaching small kids for years and have repeatedly asked the management to connect Anganwadi centres with the pre-primary education so that more children can connect with it. Now the government is thinking about converting Anganwadi centres into pre-primary schools but they want certified educators who have done courses like NTT or JBT which is unfair. This system has been implemented in some states too which is totally unacceptable,” said Negi.
According to her, there are more than 40,000 Anganwadi workers in the State who are associated with Anganwadi centres and if the government hires other educators rather than Anganwadi workers who have been teaching and taking care of children in Anganwadi centres for decades, they will be compelled to start a protest against the government. “The government has not paid us for months but every worker is still working in all the districts. The government never has sufficient budget for the Anganwadi workers but now if they will try to snatch our rights, we will not remain silent,” added Negi.
