Anganwadi workers to protest today seeking pending salaries & action on demands

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Anganwadi workers will rally to the chief minister’s residence on Monday to protest against the non-payment of their salaries for January and February. The president of the Anganwadi Workers Association Rekha Negi stated that they had submitted a letter before Holi, expressing their concern about the absence of salary payments since December.

Although the authorities transferred the December salary to the Anganwadi workers’ accounts just one day before Holi, dissatisfaction remains as no updates have been provided regarding the January and February pending payments. Negi emphasised that this issue is particularly pressing for many Anganwadi workers in the state who are widowed, divorced or financially struggling, as their salaries are their sole means of supporting their families.

Citing this, she said that the Anganwadi workers have decided to move forward and hold a protest on Monday at the CM residence. She said that on this day they would not only engage in a strike but also present a letter to the CM addressing the issue of their pending salaries. She emphasised that the protest will center not only on the pending salaries but also on their longstanding demands. In both the protest and the correspondence, they will highlight issues such as the need for an increase in the salary allowances for Anganwadi workers, the appointment of supervisors at Anganwadi centres, promotions for the workers and various other concerns.

She said that currently, the monthly salary for Anganwadi workers is Rs 9,300, while Anganwadi assistants earn Rs 5,250 and they have not received the amount for the past two months.

Negi stated that if no action is taken by the government following the protest today, they will persist with their demonstrations until the authorities address this issue.
