Ankita Bhandari case: Congress holds protest

Demanding investigation of the Ankita Bhandari murder case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under a sitting judge of the High Court, the Uttarakhand Congress held a demonstration in front of the statue of MK Gandhi in Gandhi Park here on Friday. The protest was held under the leadership of the president of the women wing of the State Congress. 

Speaking on the occasion, the president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Karan Mahara said that Ankita Bhandari case is a blot on the face of Uttarakhand and its pride. The culprits should be given such a punishment that it should set up an example for the criminals. He said that the manner in which the bulldozer was used to destroy a portion of the resort and evidence in the case shows that the criminals are being patronised under the BJP government. 

Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the family of Ankita Bhandari is in a state of shock. He said that the Congress party is trying to provide justice to the family but the government has adopted an apathetic attitude on the issue. He claimed that the police and administration are under the pressure of the government due to which they are hesitating to expose the name of the VIP in the case. The Mahila Congress State president Jyoti Rautela said that the evidence in the case was deliberately destroyed to save the culprits. She claimed that the Mahila Congress would continue to fight for justice for Ankita Bhandari.

Former minister Hira Singh Bisht, vice president (Organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, Manish Khanduri, Garmina Dasauni, Naveen Joshi, Jaswinder Gogi and others were present in the protest.
