In latest news from Uttarakhand, around 20 Congress activists were arrested by police as they were found marching towards the IDPL ground in Rishikesh where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing a BJP poll rally. Congress leaders said that the party activists were trying to reach the venue to vent protest against the PM’s stony silence on the Ankita Bhandari murder and other horrific crimes perpetrated on women in the State.
Police had made adequate security arrangements after Congress announced its programmes during the PM poll visit in Rishikesh. They pitched a camp near the opposition party’s election office in Rail Road. As Congress activists came out to march towards the IDPL ground, police stopped some of them near Ghat Choraha while a few slipped past police and started running towards the PM’s rally venue. They were stopped near the PWD guest house by a team. Police said they has asked them to go back, but when they refused they were taken into custody. Later they were taken to police station.
