Annual sports meet begins at FRI University

The four-day annual sports competition of the Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University began here on Tuesday. The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) director general and university chancellor Arun Singh Rawat formally inaugurated the competition. Students of the university, divided into four houses- Teak, Pine, Sandalwood and Sal participated in a march past during the inaugural session.
Sandalwood house was adjudged first followed by Pine and Sal houses in the second and Teak house in the third position in the march past. Speaking on the occasion, Rawat congratulated the students for moving forward with a healthy sense of competition. Sports and physical activities are vital for the physical and mental development of all participants, he said. Such competitions build a persons’ capacity to do even routine works more efficiently, said Rawat. The students competed in various athletic events and other sports on the first day of the annual competition.
