Former Kaladhungi Assembly candidate Mahesh Sharma joins saffron camp
The former Congress candidate from Kaladhungi Assembly constituency and the party’s State general secretary Mahesh Sharma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with a number of other political and social workers from various organisations here on Sunday. The former BJP State president and Kaladhungi MLA Bansidhar Bhagat played a role in bringing Sharma and others into the party.
Speaking on the occasion, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt averred that the people have decided that they will bless Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 400 plus seats in this Lok Sabha election. Inspired by the Modi wave across the nation, a large number of people from all political parties and various social organisations are joining the BJP. He said, “Our aim in Uttarakhand is to secure more than 50 per cent votes in all the booths and register victories by a margin of more than five lakh on all the five Lok Sabha seats. This is why we are welcoming those who imbibe the party’s ideology and principles,” Bhatt said. The BJP’s State election management committee convenor and Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal said that the BJP is a cadre based party. Considering this, all those who have joined the party should start working in the Lok Sabha mission, he said, while assuring them the party will take care of their respect and sentiments.
It is pertinent to mention here that a number of leaders from the Congress and other parties have so far joined the BJP. Former Congress Garhwal Lok Sabha candidate Manish Khanduri, former cabinet minister and ex-MLA from Badrinath, Rajendra Bhandari, former AAP State convenor Jot Singh Bisht, three-time former Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Haridas, former MLAs Vijaypal Sajwan from Gangotri and Malchand from Purola- both of the Congress are among those who have joined the BJP in recent months, among others.
