The cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested another cyber fraudster from Rajasthan on charges of duping a Dehradun resident of over Rs 47.67 lakh. His gang has scammed several people across the country of at least Rs 85 lakh, said the deputy superintendent of police of STF’s cyber crime police station Ankush Mishra. He said that a Sahastradhara resident registered a complaint that an unknown person duped him of over Rs 47.67 lakh in the name of providing him with a part time job.

The team of the cyber crime police started an investigation and found out that many had registered complaints against the said accused from several states. The police also got the location of the accused via technical analysis after which they nabbed him from Rajasthan’s Bhilwara.

The accused named Afzal Mohammad (25) confessed that he and his gang created fake websites of well-known companies and contacted those people who had shown interest in part time jobs on social media platforms. He has also stated that he used to open new fake bank accounts for his accomplice Yakub for which he got paid Rs 40,000 for each account. Mishra said that the team has found a transaction of Rs 85 lakh in the past two days on analysing such bank accounts. The DSP said that cyber fraudsters are coming up with new techniques to dupe people and it is necessary to stay cautious while using social media. He appealed to the people to not get lured by lucrative job offers and to refrain from sharing personal details with unknown people on social media platforms and call at 1930 to complain about financial cyber frauds.
