ANTF arrests UP man in Haridwar with over one lakh pills

The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) constituted under Uttarakhand State Task Force (STF) has claimed to have recovered 1.20 lakh pills of controlled drugs from an interstate drug peddler in Haridwar late Sunday night. The pills were allegedly meant to be smuggled into the Haridwar district, as per the officials.

The senior superintendent of police of STF, Ayush Agrawal informed that the ANTF in a joint operation with Gangnahar police of Haridwar arrested the accused Kasif, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, late on Sunday night acting on a tip off about his arrival in the area. He said that the accused was travelling in his car from UP carrying a total of 1.20 lakh prescription pills worth lakhs of rupees to supply in the Haridwar district.

The authorities arrested the accused and seized the vehicle and the pills on Sunday, said the SSP. He said that a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused. He said that the authorities are investigating the accused’s criminal history in the State as well as across the country. He might be associated with other people involved in drug smuggling and every angle of the matter will be investigated by authorities. He said that ANTF has been making consistent efforts to take action against the illegal supply of drugs across the State from neighbouring states. He said that the STF is also considering commencing the process of confiscating the property of all such criminals who have earned it through smuggling drugs.

The SSP has also appealed to all citizens to approach STF on contact numbers 01352656202 and 9412029536 to give information about any illegal drug-related activities they observe nearby.
