As part of its anti-encroachment campaign in various parts of Haridwar, the district administration will begin an anti-encroachment drive in the market areas around Har Ki Paidi on Monday. Last week the authorities had removed a number of encroachments from government lands in the Rodibelwala area.
According to officials, the district administration has issued strict guidelines to the Vyapar Mandal to prevent encroachment, failing which action will be taken by the authorities. Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey said that a number of encroachments have been cleared as part of the anti-encroachment campaign being undertaken by the district administration. A drive to remove the encroachments in the markets around Har Ki Paidi will be started from Monday.
The district administration is also getting the cooperation of the Vyapar Mandal which has assured that its members will themselves take necessary steps against encroachments. The traders will be given the opportunity to remove their encroachments, failing which the illegal encroachment will be removed from public space by the district administration.
It is worth mentioning here that several rounds of meetings have been held between the traders and the administration regarding the encroachments. Earlier the traders had put a condition that encroachments should be removed first from the Rodibelwala area after which the traders in other areas would themselves remove their encroachments. With encroachments having been removed by the authorities from the Rodibelwala area, the drive against encroachments in the marketplace around Har Ki Paidi will begin today.
