The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) of Dehradun has restricted the stay-time of vehicles in the Niranjanpur Mandi as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The secretary of the committee, Vijay Thapliyal informed that since the Covid cases started increasing in the city in the past few weeks, the committee had started taking all the precautionary measures to check the contagion on the premises of the Mandi. He said that the Mandi officials informed him that since several vehicles of traders arrive in Mandi on a daily basis that stay for hours, it has started causing a jam in the premises too. Also, local vegetable and fruit vendors arrive during the early morning that makes it hard to ensure compliance with Covid protocols on the premises. Considering this, the committee has restricted the stay-time of vehicles on the premises from Monday. He said that only 50 vehicles are being allowed to enter at a time which can stay for a maximum of one hour in the Mandi premises. Similarly, another 50 vehicles will be allowed on the premises in the next hour, added Thapliyal. He also informed that the committee has imposed an odd and even system for the entry of vehicles. He said that the number plates of the vehicles ending with 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 are allowed entries on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while the numbers ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed on the remaining days. The APMC secretary said that the committee has instructed the traders and vendors to follow the Covid guidelines in the premises with the warning of imposing hefty penalties if found to be violating the rules. “We will soon send notices to the respective unions to adhere to the guidelines in the Mandi premises to prevent the Covid contagion,” added Thapliyal.
