Appointment of 14 members will strengthen work of USCW: Kandwal

The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal said that the appointment of 14 new members will further strengthen the work of the commission. She made this statement during the board meeting of the commission for the financial year 2024-2025, which was recently held in Dehradun. In the meeting, Kandwal expressed gratitude towards chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for his sensitivity towards cases and incidents in the State. She also introduced and welcomed the newly appointed 14 members at the commission, while informing all present members about the functioning of the commission, highlighting its focus on keeping families together and protecting the safety and rights of women. She further directed the members that they are required to collaborate with government officials of every district including the district magistrate, police district programme officer, district child development project officer and others to seek justice for victimised women and ensure their welfare and safety. Additionally, Kandwal expressed gratitude to all the members and exhorted them to work diligently in their districts to ensure that no victimised woman feels unsafe.
Apart from this, during the board meeting, a range of women’s safety issues were discussed and proposals were approved for workshops, meetings, inspections and other initiatives to raise awareness among women across all 13 districts of the State. These initiatives include public awareness campaigns, legal workshops and public hearings aimed at delivering justice to victims and empowering women socially, politically and economically.
