With preparations going on in full swing for the Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar, an initiative is taking shape to give an eco-friendly new look to the banks of the Ganga. In bringing this concept to reality, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) along with technical experts from Netherlands conducted an on- site inspection of the proposed Green Ghat areas on Friday and discussed various aspects in detail with the senior officials of the Mela administration and the Haridwar Municipal Corporation.
Along with the infrastructure being developed in Haridwar for the upcoming religious congregation, the Aastha Path is a key focus of this initiative. The plan to extend the Aastha Path from the Dhanush Bridge connecting Har Ki Pauri to the Bairagi Camp also envisages developing the adjoining Ganga ghats as green ghats. This would enhance this important route for the movement of pilgrims and make the area around the Ganga banks more attractive from a natural and clean perspective, said a senior Mela officer.
Notably, this ambitious initiative is being supported by the India-Netherlands Partnership Urban River Management Programme, which provides technical support. To boost things up, Dutch experts visited the Aastha Path area and reviewed various aspects of the Green Ghats project.
The delegation also met with the Mela officer, Sonika and discussed the project threadbare. She apprised them of the development projects being executed to the make the congregation environment-friendly. Besides her,
the municipal commissioner, Haridwar, Nandan Kumar gave detailed information on various aspects of the Green Ghat project.
