Army families to join plastic waste collection & recycling campaign

Thursday, 27 June 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Plastic Bank campaign led by the Dehradun-based Social Development for Communities (SDC) foundation will be joined by 4,000 army families soon, SDC founder Anoop Nautiyal said.  He mentioned that 100 army families have already contributed to the initiative by handing over plastic waste collected from their homes for recycling.

Nautiyal informed that he had been invited as a speaker at World Environment Day celebration at Garhi Cantt in Dehradun on June 5 where he addressed a large number of military officers, soldiers and their family members. During the event, he urged military families to reduce their use of plastic at home and collect it for recycling. Over 100 families of military officers and soldiers responded to his appeal by turning over their collected plastic waste for recycling.

He mentioned that the plastic waste would be segregated at the Plastic Waste Segregation and Learning Centre and then arranged for recycling.

Nautiyal said that as the use of plastic keeps increasing rapidly, the public awareness and efforts to reduce plastic waste are not keeping pace. “In response to this issue, we have fallen back on plastic collection for recycling as an effective solution,” he said.

Notably, the SDC Foundation has already set up 135 plastic banks in Dehradun with plans to further expand this initiative into a larger movement in the future.
