The Surya Command of Indian Army has achieved a milestone by integrating civil aviation helicopters for air maintenance of far flung forward posts in Himachal Pradesh and Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand. Aviation contracts have been inked with Thumby Aviation private limited for the purpose and the operations commenced from Thursday.
The augmentation of aviation efforts will facilitate timely build-up of logistics stocks as well as forward delivery of construction material in far flung places thereby contributing towards logistic efficiency and early construction of infrastructure. The initiative will also help in optimising integral resources for achieving enhanced mission and operational readiness of the army.
“Indian Army has been operating in inhospitable terrain in extreme inclement weather conditions to maintain constant vigil along the borders. Many of these forward posts are yet to be connected by road with work in progress. The logistics are provided through air resources of Army and Airforce for maintenance of the posts in such regions,’’ said a communique from the army.
