Jat is hooked to betting on IPL & had wagered Rs 2.5L out of the loot

A jawan of the Jat Regiment has been arrested from Delhi by the Dehradun police for allegedly robbing a duo after throwing chilli powder in their faces. The accused told the police that he is habituated to betting on IPL and has lost lakhs of rupees in this activity so far. Dehradun senior superintendent of police and deputy inspector general Janmejaya Khanduri informed that the crime had taken place on May 5 when RK Nainwal came out of a bank after withdrawing Rs 10 lakh in Shimla bypass area. Nainwal and his father had just sat in the car when a person threw chilli powder in their eyes and ran away with the bag containing the cash. When the duo raised the alarm and some bystanders started chasing him, the culprit took Rs three lakh from the bag and left the remaining cash and bag at a spot. The police team probing the case checked footage from 225 CCTV cameras in the area. Acting on a tip off, the police arrested the accused Satyendra Jat from a guest house in Qutub Vihar area of Dwarka in Delhi on Saturday. The police recovered Rs 45,000, his cheque book and other items from him. He revealed during police questioning that he is in the army and currently posted in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He said that he was habituated to betting on IPL and had lost Rs 40 lakh on it so far. On May 5, he had gone to the bank to deposit the Rs 300 left with him when he saw a person withdrawing a considerable amount and was tempted. He bought red chilli powder from a shop near the bank and when the persons came out after withdrawing cash, he threw it in their eyes and ran away with their bag containing the cash. When some men started chasing him, he hurriedly took out some bundles of cash and left the bag on the spot. He later counted the money he had managed to steal- Rs 3,00,000. Later that day he went to Delhi by bus and lodged at a guest house. He used a mobile phone to bet Rs 2.5 lakh out of the money he had stolen on IPL, spent Rs 5,000 and was left with Rs 45,000. He was arrested by the police from outside the guest house in Delhi and will be presented in the court.
