The leader of opposition (LoP) in the Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya has alleged that the arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra have collapsed in the first three days itself after the start of the Yatra. The chaos prevailing from the Haridwar-Rishikesh to the four shrines has proved that the State government has not taken the Yatra with sensitivity.
He said that it appears that the government’s focus is on the number of pilgrims and not on making proper arrangements and management for them.
He said that since all the four Dhams are located in the high Himalayan regions, there is a need for a smooth and safe journey. Arya said that the government is claiming that record-breaking numbers of pilgrims are coming to the Dhams but it is not in a position to tell how many pilgrims can be accommodated in each Dham every day. He said that it is a matter of concern that many pilgrims have to spend the night in the open in the biting cold.
“Every day, news of the chaos and shortcomings of the Char Dham Yatra are being circulated in the media and social media, due to which the image of Uttarakhand is being dented worldwide,’’ he said.
Arya said that the Char Dham roads, which are being promoted as “all-weather road” are still not fully constructed and are in poor shape due to which the pilgrims are getting stuck in traffic jams.
