The Sports Minister, Rekha Arya, has urged the concerned officials to start preparing the State’s athletes for the 2036 Olympics immediately. She made this statement during a meeting held here on Friday.
She expressed the objective of ensuring that 30 to 40 athletes from the state participate in the 2036 Olympics. Additionally, she instructed the players to aim for Uttarakhand to rank among the top five in the upcoming National Games.
Arya further finalised the Sports Legacy Plan and emphasised that it should be designed to enable progress toward goals set for the next 10 years. Arya informed that the Legacy Plan includes the establishment of 23 sports academies, where coaches with international-level certifications will be appointed, along with assistant coaches. Arya also said that a High Power Sports Authority of Uttarakhand is being formed to oversee the operation of these academies, with the chief minister serving as the head. The authority will also include secretaries from various departments and representatives from the field of higher education. Further, cooperation with the Sports Authority of India (SAI)—an organisation dedicated to identifying and training athletes nationwide—is being sought, Arya said.
